Marayoor is the only place in Kerala where natural Sandal wood forests are seen.
Ancient dolmens and rock paintings in Marayoor date back to the Stone Age.

Marayoor got its name from the amalgam of two Malayalam words, Mara and Oor- meaning hidden & land. Marayoor is in the Idukki District , Kerala, 42 kilometers north of Munnar through the Udumalppetta route.
